Rescue Diver Course
Protecting the Adventure

The Scuba Schools Rescue Diver Course gives you the opportunity to expand your knowledge of diving and increase your level of diving skill. It makes you more aware of what is happening around you in the diving environment. The course is designed to develop the necessary knowledge and skills for you to effectively perform diver rescues and assists, manage diving accident situations and render proper first aid. Rescue Diver certification is also an important prerequisite for the Divemaster rating, the first professional diver rating, and the distinguished Master Scuba Diver rating, the highest nonprofessional rating in scuba diving. Most importantly, rescue training can help you save lives and increase diving's already excellent safety record by preparing you to respond properly to diving emergencies and near emergencies.

In order to qualify for participation in the course, you must certified to a level of Advanced Open Water Diver or higher. Training in first aid is desirable but not required, although current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a requirement for Rescue Diver Certification. Should you not have a current CPR certification, (trained in CPR within the last 2 years) the PADI Medic First Aid program available through Scuba Schools, will meet this requirement.

Throughout this course every effort is made to expose you to realistic problem situations so as to gain skill in dealing with them. Our goal is to produce divers who are not only capable of dealing with problems, but who are aware of the environment and the potential problem situations around them. Only through awareness can you recognize problem situations and hence prevent accidents. As we all know, the best way of dealing with an accident situation is to prevent it from occurring in the first place. The Rescue Diver is truly an asset to the sport of diving.

The Rescue Diver Course begins with self study of the PADI Rescue Diver manual. During the water training sessions your instructor will again review the material. Finally, during the training weekend, you will complete written examination necessary for certification.

Dive Requirements:
The Rescue Diver Course consists of two days of water training at a popular, recreational dive site. During the training you will be exposed to a variety of realistic problem situations.

If you are not current in CPR the PADI Medic First Aid Course can be completed during the program and will meet the requirement for certification. An additional fee of $55 for CPR certification would apply.
Please see the Training Schedule for dates of the variety of training sessions open to you.
